Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I'm sorry that it's been so long since I've last updated my blog. Although I've been incredibly busy over the past few months, I really don't have any good excuse for my absence. I went to 4
separate Thanksgiving dinners this past year. The first picture is from the boys' schools' annual international thanksgiving feast. Anyway, each student brings a dish or dessert representative of their native country to share (there are children from over 20 countries in the elementary school alone!). The fish pictured above was from President
Kabila (president of D.R. Congo). This picture was actually taken last year, but he brought the same type of fish this year on the same platter (only the fish was even larger this year), and I heard that he brings it every year. He (or his cooks I should say) actually brought several dishes representative of D.R. Congo. I brought pumpkin bread. Very exciting.
Here I am pictured with some of the most beautiful ladies in Kinshasa! Every year Charles and I like to host a Thanksgiving dinner for our friends on the weekend following Thanksgiving. This year 50+ people attended, and I really enjoyed having so many wonderful friends in our home. Unfortunately, it did rain the ENTIRE time, but at least our back veranda is quite large and so everything turned out well.
We ate lunch on Thanksgiving day at the U.S. Ambassador's residence. Here is a picture of Anson channeling his inner "
Zoolander" by striking a pose on the Ambassador's stairs. He is such a funny kid, and he loves to make people laugh. Of course Anders is in the background telling Anson to "stop it!"
For dinner on Thanksgiving day we ate at our Regional Security Officer's residence. The Marines cooked a pig over a fire, and that was absolutely wonderful. I took a picture of the pig being roasted, but it looked a little gruesome for the blog. Prior to dinner, the bigger boys in attendance (including
Soren, pictured) took turns
attempting to run over the suspended "tightrope." You can see Anders and his buddy Jasper battling it out in the background.
Ah, my favorite part of Thanksgiving! Here is a picture of the dessert buffet at our home following our annual post-Thanksgiving dinner.
